Date for new Line 8 section
THE third phase of Metro Line 8 is expected to be connected by the end of this year, which will promote the development of massive residential complexes in Pujiang Town, the city’s Metro operator said.
Unlike conventional Metro lines, trains on the new section will use rubber tires filled with nitrogen and run on a concrete railway.
This means the elevated line can be installed close to residential communities as the trains can run both more quietly and more environmentally friendly.
The technology applied is called automated people mover, or APM system. Such systems usually serve relatively small areas such as airports or theme parks.
In China, the technology has already been put into use at Beijing Capital International Airport and Guangzhou’s Metro network.
The new section of Line 8 stretches about 6.5 kilometers, with six elevated stations.
The stations are Shendu Highway, the current terminal station of Line 8, Sanlu Highway, Minrui Road, Puhang Road, Dongcheng Road No.1 and Huizhen Road stations.
It is still unknown when the new section will be put into operation.
