Cool and wet on parade day

ANYONE planning to watch the Shanghai Tourism Festival float parade later today should keep an umbrella and a coat handy, weather forecasters said yesterday.

Rain is expected to hit the city this morning, while the rest of the day will be mostly overcast, with temperatures ranging between 22 and 24 degrees Celsius, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.

As a result of the showers, the city’s air quality should be better today, with the AQI ranging between 30 and 50, the Shanghai Environment Monitoring Center said.

Tomorrow will be hotter, with a high of 27 or 28 degrees, and the warm weather is set to remain through Tuesday.

A band of subtropical high pressure, however, means the sky will be cloudy and showers are likely.

As a result of the higher temperatures, forecasters said that fall has yet to officially start. This happens when the high temperature drops below 22 degrees for five consecutive days, which in recent years has been in early October.
