Bus routes plan for F1 spectators

VISITORS wanting to see the Formula One Chinese Grand Prix will have the opportunity of using a tailored bus service.

The service is scheduled to be launched to ferry visitors along four routes between major transportation hubs and the venue during the event, which takes place in suburban Jiading District from April 7 to 9.

Previously, visitors to the grand prix usually either traveled by Metro or drove themselves, in turn, creating traffic jams around Metro stations near Shanghai International Circuit.

The special service will be run by bus operator eCheng Bus, in cooperation with Shanghai Bashi Group, the city’s largest bus company.

The operator also plans to set up other tailored services for occasions such as key sports events, concerts or festivals like the Qingming Festival.

“We’ve released four bus routes during the (grand prix) open for registration,” Wang Xiaoliang, marketing director with the company said. “But if there are not many people registering for the service, the route might be canceled. The passengers would be informed in advance and the money will be refunded.”

As with other tailored bus services, passengers will have to register via the operator’s WeChat account “echengbus” and scan the QR code on board for verification.

The four planned routes will travel in the morning from People’s Square, Wujiaochang, Jing’an Temple and a transportation hub in Pudong, returning after the event finishes for the day. Tickets will be 15 yuan (US$2.20) per journey.

The grand prix will also provide shuttle bus service.
