Bullet train services suspended

RAILWAY authorities yesterday canceled 22 bullet train services scheduled to depart from or pass through Shanghai Hongqiao station today due to a typhoon alert.

The affected trains — 18 of which were set to leave from Shanghai and four to pass through it — were destined for the coastal cities of Shenzhen, Xiamen and Fuzhou.

A total of 19 bullet train services were canceled yesterday in response to the approach of Typhoon Matmo.

Anyone with a ticket for a canceled train is entitled to a full refund as long as they apply within five days of the scheduled departure time, officials said.

Rail services to neighboring Zhejiang Province have so far been unaffected, the authorities said.

To minimize disruption to people traveling to destinations between Shanghai and the coastal cities — including Hangzhou, Ningbo and Wenzhou — six additional bullet train services will be put into service today, running from Shanghai to Wenzhou.
