All change for Century Avenue traffic

TRAFFIC arrangements around the sundial sculpture on Century Avenue will be subject to significant changes from today due to the construction of the tunnel on Yanggao Road S.

The underpass running below the sundial is closed to traffic until the end of June next year. Cars from Yanggao Road M. to Yanggao Road S. have been assigned a lane above ground.

Meanwhile, instead of driving around the sundial from Yanggao Road S. to Century Avenue, drivers will be forced to take a right turn and then a left turn to access the avenue.

Taking a right turn from Yanggao Road to Yuanshen Road is now permitted.

Pedestrians, however, will no longer be able to use zebra crossings to get to the sundial from Century Avenue.

Police anticipate congestion on Yanggao Road while the construction takes place. It is estimated that 3,500 cars used the underpass during morning rush hours and 3,750 cars used it in the evening.

The underpass is sited in an area by the densely populated Lianyang and Yangjing communities.

To relieve the expected traffic pressure, police said traffic lights for cars will remain on green for a longer time at the intersection on Yanggao Road.

Buses 38, 975 and 983 are to be rerouted from the area, police said.
