30 new bus routes link centers
THIRTY new bus routes will go into service this year to link large residential areas with Metro stations and commercial centers.
Eight routes will start operations before the end of next month to benefit residents in the districts of Baoshan and Xuhui, said Shanghai Bashi Group, a major operator of city buses.
These include the No. 56 route, which will link Xuhui District’s Changqiao neighborhood to Xujiahui commercial area, said officials.
In addition to the 30 new lines, the group said it will adjust the routes and intervals of 21 existing lines around the city to better meet passenger needs.
Bashi Group runs a total of 477 bus lines in Shanghai.
Among them, 120 are major routes that each carry more than 14,000 passengers a day and connect with at least two Metro lines.
Bashi Group plans to expand its bus network and extend 25 major lines before the end of 2017, said officials.
