2 more P+R parking on Line 9

SONGJIANG District will build another two P+R (Park and Ride) parking lots along Metro Line 9 this year to relieve pressure on road traffic in the city.

The two parking lots will be located at Dongjing and Sijing stations but officials did not reveal when the parking lots will become operational. Officials said the ban on use of highways for non-Shanghai car plates during rush hours was pushing up demand for parking spaces, especially for people who live in the outskirts of the city.

Since April 15, cars without local plates are banned on the highways from 7am to 10am and 4pm to 7pm. The P+R parking lots allow commuters to drive to the metro stations, park their cars there and take the train to the destination for as little as 10 yuan per day. Songjiang already has a P+R parking lot at Sheshan Station and at the Songjiang University Town station. Till last year, the city had a total of 12 P+R parking lots.
