Zhongshan opens new emergency department

ZHONGSHAN Hospital’s new emergency department opened at 1609 Xietu Road yesterday, with 10 ambulances bringing patients there in the first morning.

The previous address on nearby Fenglin road is a one-way street with many traffic lights, which resulted in traffic jams that could delay emergency admissions.

The new address has better traffic access, said hospital officials.

Zhongshan’s emergency department closed for a week while everything was moved to the new site.

This was the first time in the city that a leading hospital has stopped its emergency service completely for so long.

“We have received about 10 ambulances just in the morning,” said Qi Lulu, an official of the hospital.

Zhongshan usually receives 600 to 700 emergency patients every day.

Demand for emergency services is rising, placing leading hospitals under pressure, as these are the first choice of most patients.

Experts have suggested that each district should have district-level hospitals that receive emergency patients to ease these pressures.
