Senior care exhibition kicks off in city

A smart system that allows bedridden seniors to control home appliances via the movement of their eyes and an intelligent senior care sensor system are on display at the China International Exhibition of Senior Care Rehabilitation Medicine and Healthcare opening today.

Disabled and bedridden seniors are able to turn on or switch off lights, air conditioning and television sets and control the height of electric beds by looking at the relevant buttons on computers. They can also chat on wechat and QQ and surf online by focusing their sight on different letters to type words.

The eye control system is achieved through infra-red technology.

In addition, the Shanghai Gerontological Society announced on the sidelines of the exhibition that it would launch a trial program at three residential communities, Hongqiao, Jing'an Temple and Jiangning, on the household use of smart automatic beds to alleviate the acute shortage of senior care homes.

The beds can turn over and move up or down via controller.

The exhibition at the Shanghai New International Expo Center will run through Friday.
