Mental health rules
SHANGHAI People’s Congress, the local lawmaker, is amending the city’s mental health regulations, and expects to issue them before the end of the year. The new rules will focus on prevention, intervention to help people with mental health problems and improving the mental health service system. The amended regulations will also cover mental health promotions for residents in the community, students and employees. Shanghai has 113,000 registered patients with serious mental health problems and 24 hospitals with some 13,000 beds designated for mental health patients.
