Lab releases report on Antarctic expeditions

THE Shanghai-based Key Laboratory for Polar Science of State Oceanic Administration released its 2016 annual report on Thursday.

The laboratory completed 21 key projects last year, including studying the stability of Antarctic’s ice sheet and its impact on global sea level.

According to the report, scientists from the laboratory collected substantial data through the 29th, 31st and 32nd expeditions to the Antarctic, particularly in Princess Elizabeth Land of east Antarctic, which is known as the “last pole of ignorance.”

The data will help the scientists to further study how the lakes and waters underneath the Antarctic will impact global sea level.
