Half of aged Chinese have osteoporosis with 25% suffer relevant fractures: experts
UP to 50 percent of Chinese people over 60 years old have osteoporosis and 25 percent of these people suffer fractures blamed on it, local medical experts said, adding over 50 percent of such fractures cause disability, local medical experts said.
The key of osteoporosis prevention is profound intake of calcium, proper exercises and sunshine, while the elderly must be aware of fall, which can cause fracture, Dr Cheng Qun from Shanghai Huadong Hospital told local elderly people in Jingan District.
The nation’s first stage drama featuring osteoporosis introduced by Jing’an District Center of Disease Control and Prevention as well as health authorities, medical experts and pharmaceutical companies, was shown in local theaters from this week. Seniors in Jing’an are invited to see the drama as well as health education in communities to talk about osteoporosis prevention and control.
