Food safety checks

LOCAL food safety watchdog inspected and checked 32,571 batches of foodstuffs between January and September, detecting 2,849 batches that didn’t meet criteria. Local police cracked down 79 food safety cases, netting 191 suspects. The Shanghai Food Safety Office said there have been three mass food poisoning cases this year with 126 people affected. There were six outbreaks by this time last year.
