Families competing on science

THE final of a citywide family competition on science was launched yesterday, when the winner beat among the final round of 10 candidates for tests on knowledge on science. The winner family received the prize of an astronomical summer camp.

The Shanghai Radio Station teamed with local science and technology authorities and other science museums and parks to launch the “Hey, Science” contest in order to promote science and knowledge in the public. Knowledge was spread through interesting and simple test papers and experiments.

Shanghai Science and Technology Commission said the city plans to raise the public science qualification from 18.71 percent of people meeting the standard to 25 percent by 2020. The competition, which was launched under the guidance of the commission, is a measure to transfer serious scientific knowledge to practical and easy-to-remember common senses to the public.
