Child cancer figures

CHILDREN account for about 0.3 percent of new cancer cases in the city each year, the Shanghai Disease Control and Prevention Center said.

While cancers of the lungs, stomach, liver, intestines and breasts are the most common cancers among adults, in children, the disease is more frequently found in blood generation systems, nervous systems and mesenchymal tissues. Leukemia is the most common cancer in children, accounting for about a third of all cases. This is followed by brain and lymphatic cancer, which account for 20 percent and 10 percent of all cases.
