Center boasts high cancer success rate

THE Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Center in Pudong New Area has accepted nearly 300 cancer patients in the past year and most of them have responded positively to treatment, the center said yesterday.
Patients now have access to an online counseling platform, where they can consult medics and apply for hospital appointments.
Among the 283 patients the center has admitted, 58 percent have received heavy ion therapy and 29 percent have had combined proton and heavy ion treatment. The remaining 13 percent have received proton therapy.
The oldest patient is aged 81 and the youngest is 14. The average age of patients is 55.
They have been admitted with different types of cancers.
So far 244 of them have responded positively to the treatment they have received and been discharged from the center.
