UK man’s passport found in taxi

POLICE and a taxi company are trying to trace a British passenger who left his passport and cash in a cab yesterday morning.

Driver Liu Jun told Shanghai Daily that three foreign passengers got into his cab at the Shanghai Baolong Hotel on Yixian Road at around 10am and he took them to the Shanghai JC Mandarin Hotel on Nanjing Road.

When his next passenger got into the cab, Liu discovered that the foreign group had left a jacket under a seat, he said.

In the jacket was a passport, a bag of foreign currency and a boarding card for a flight from London to Shanghai on Saturday.

The passport belongs to Charles John McGirr.

Liu said he drove back to the two hotels looking for the foreign passengers, without success.

After three hours of searching, Liu handed the jacket in to Shanghai Dazhong Taxi Co.

Dazhong informed police, who will seek immigration authorities’ help to find the owner today.

“I’m sure the owner of the jacket is very worried about the missing passport and money,” Liu said.

“I was worried too but couldn’t find him. I just hope now the jacket can be returned.”

Anyone with information should call Dazhong’s 24 hour hotline 021-66839531.
