Winds to bring pollutants
BRACE for another round of heavy pollution early today with the Air Quality Index predicted to reach 205. Tiny particle PM2.5 will be the main pollutant.
According to Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center, a change in wind direction will bring pollutants from the northern and western provinces into the city.
“Given the amount of pollutants seen in the neighboring cities and provinces, a change in wind direction can easily bring the pollutants and affect Shanghai’s air quality,” a staff at the center said yesterday.
The AQI is expected to fall to 135 to 155, or moderately polluted, in the afternoon, largely due to cleaner easterly winds from the sea.
There will be brief respite tomorrow before poor air quality strikes again on Friday due to another cold front.
