Sanlin greenery to dwarf Century Park

A large new green space, with greenery coverage three and a half times the size of Century Park, is planned for suburban Sanlin Town.

The draft plan has been released by Pudong New Area Planning and Land Authority.

Century Park is the city’s largest park within the Inner Ring Road.

The new area will be located along Huangpu River, some sections of the Outer Ring Road (S20) and the boundary of Sanlin Town.

The proposed new space will cover a total area of 831 hectares — more than half of which will be covered by greenery and water, according to the draft.

The area will include five new community infrastructures, including a vegetable market and culture center.

More schools are also expected to be built in the area — a senior and a junior high school, a primary school and four kindergartens.

Most of the road network in the planned area will not change, except for some minor adjustments, including reconstruction along Jiyang Road and Puxing Highway, and the construction of a cross river passage near Luheng Road.

The planned area will hold a strategic position in the city’s ecological development as it connects with both river and sea. It also bridges the more established urban area and countryside on the outskirts of the city.

This year places beyond Outer Ring Road in Sanlin have been listed as a key area in the district government’s agenda on environment improvement.
