New environmental law to target polluting firms
SHANGHAI will target high-risk polluting factories after China’s new Environment Protection Law comes into effect from January 1.
The local environmental watchdog said yesterday it will carry out campaigns against factories with boilers, volatile organic compounds, dirt from construction sites and automobile exhaust.
The new law has tightened the penalty against companies damaging the environment. Other measures include ordering pollutant-generating plants to reduce or stop production that causes excessive discharge. Local environmental bodies face punishments if they are found to be slack in their work or caught protecting violating companies.
