Ban on polluting trucks

FROM January 1, only trucks that meet the China IV emission standard or are powered by clean energy will be licensed to run on Shanghai’s downtown roads during the day, officials said yesterday. Unlicensed vehicles will be allowed access to such streets only between the hours of 8pm and 7am, as the government seeks to reduce air pollution in the city.
