The American crime drama series "Breaking Bad" won the gold award to capture top honors as the 20th Shanghai TV Festival announced winners of the Magnolia Best Foreign TV series today.

The South Korean series "My Love from the Star," which is hugely popular in China, earned the silver award.

Jang Tae-yu, director of "My Love from the Star," and Park Ji-eun, scriptwriter of the series, will come to town to share their experiences with domestic TV producers. They will also attend the festival's awards ceremony on the evening of June 13.

The South Korean series, which has impressed hundreds of millions of Chinese viewers, will also be aired on the local Entertainment Channel at 10:30pm on June 9. Its popularity is widespread throughout Asia, especially in China, where the drama has received more than 3 billion views at major video websites.

The romantic show centers on the love story of professor Do Min-Joon, an alien who landed on Earth 400 years ago. The handsome Do has enhanced vision, hearing and speed. Three months before he is about to leave Earth, he falls in love with the actress Cheon Song-Yi.

The episodes were among the top-rated series in South Korea.

The Magnolia Best Foreign TV series award was established in 2008 to enhance international cultural exchanges in TV production. Officials from the festival's organizing committee said they will provide a platform of pitching, filmmaking and marketing for more original co-productions.
