City God Temple offers culture classes to visitors

Following a yearlong renovation, Shanghai’s City God Temple is offering classes in Chinese culture to visitors.

Senior priests at the 600-year-old temple will give lessons in tea ceremony, calligraphy, tai chi, traditional musical instruments and scripture recitation, an official surnamed Wei told Shanghai Daily.

“Local expats who can understand the Chinese language are welcome,” she said. There will be 10 two-hour lessons on each topic at 7pm on Thursdays or Saturdays and applications could be made via e-mail to cagyjjh@163.com. Identity cards or passports are required.

A 300 yuan (US$47) deposit is required which will be returned if participants attend at least eight lessons, otherwise the temple will donate the money to charity.
