Symphonic opening for new venue
A concert will be held tomorrow to mark the opening of the Maxus Plaza, the city’s largest outdoor theater.
The first concert at the venue, situated near the Shanghai Disney Resort in the Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone, will feature the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra and the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, said officials.
Tomorrow afternoon’s concert will see the debut of the “Overture of Spring 2016,” which was composed by Chinese Gong Tianpeng for the grand opening of the resort on June 16.
The show will also feature classic native tunes such as “Shanghai Night” and jazz numbers from the 1940s.
Unfortunately for most of Shanghai’s music fans, the first concert will be open only to invited guests who contributed to the construction of the zone, the group said.
