Restored classics for film fest

THE 18th Shanghai International Film Festival will screen newly restored movies from June 13 to June 21.

The movies include Italian epic crime film “Once upon a time in America,” Hong Kong martial arts film “Dragon Gate Inn,” Japanese new wave film “A Story of the Cruelties of Youth,” avant-garde Soviet film “The Color of Pomegranates” and John Woo’s famed action thriller “A Better Tomorrow.”

The movies were produced between 1960s to 1980s. With 4K digital restoration, they will be shown in stunning colors and images. Director John Woo will also attend the special exhibition section during the film festival.

Over the years, Shanghai Film Festival has restored and presented an array of classic movies such as “Stage Sisters,” “Love and Obligation,” “Crow and Sparrow” and “Goddess.”

Officials said world cinema had a rich heritage and it is important to preserve them with digital technology.
