Love story set in war-torn city

A love story set during World War II will be staged at the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum by Chinese and international students from Shanghai Theater Academy from the weekend.
“White Horse Cafe” tells how a Jewish refugee falls in love with a Chinese military spy, but who also has to cope with a Japanese soldier wooing her.
Sun Huizhu, playwright and director of the drama and professor of the academy, said the drama was a revised version of “North of the Suzhou Creek,” first performed in 2014. Sun said the new drama would be more understandable to foreigners.
The 90-minute drama will be staged on Friday and Saturday nights until January 7. Most of the lines will be spoken in English.
