Escapologist avoids speeding Happy Valley roller coaster

DEAN Gunnarson, a Canadian escape artist, worked his way out of chains and handcuffs on the Fireball roller coaster at Shanghai Happy Valley this morning.

It took Gunnarson 58 seconds to free himself before the roller coaster smashed into him. The roller coaster travels at a top speed of 90 kilometers per hour and Gunnarson escaped with several seconds to spare.

It was Gunnarson's final roller coaster escape, according to his team.

The Canadian is known for a number of daring and dangerous escapes.

One of his most famous stunts was escaping from a strait jacket while hanging upside down from a trapeze suspended above the Hoover Dam.
