Conservatory’s offer for opening week

SHANGHAI Conservatory of Music is offering free programs for residents who reserve tickets for performances during its opening week that starts on Sunday.

“We hope that the annual opening week will serve as a platform for music lovers to get to know about our conservatory and the music students’ life,” said Lin Zaiyong, a conservatory official.

To introduce the conservatory to residents, Shanghai Conservatory of Music initiated an annual opening week program in 2015.

With the program well-received in the past two years, the conservatory plans to continue providing free seats for concerts, lectures, rehearsals, undergraduate and graduate classes to the public. About 20 free programs are on offer for between five to 200 seats for each concert and opening-class program. Furthermore, 30 visitors will be admitted to the Conservatory History Museum every half an hour.

A one in 10 scale model of the Conservatory Opera House, scheduled to be completed next year, will also be open to 60 visitors with reservations on Sunday — at 9am, 10am and 11am.

“The model at the conservatory campus is for sound effect tests and research. But we considered it also a good way to provide residents a first glimpse of the opera house-to-be,” said Chen Ming, another conservatory official. To reduce possible damage to the model, the tour is only open to those older than 12.
