City garden set to bloom next year

THE Shanghai Botanical Garden in Xuhui District will be extended next year to provide a more interactive experience for visitors, its operators said.

The northern area of the 30-hectare garden, which was formerly closed to the public and used for cultivating plants, is to be redeveloped, they said.

The new section will feature a horticultural museum, greenhouses and a floral display pavilion. It will also be used as a teaching venue, where people will be able to take courses in gardening and horticulture, and attend science-related events.

“We will also display the results of our research, which we have never done before,” said Zhao Changhong, a plant expert with the garden.
