Circus troupe Cirque du Soleil to stage touring shows in Shanghai next year

CIRQUE du Soleil, the world-famous circus troupe, will stage touring shows in Shanghai next year, it announced yesterday.

These shows will be staged within a month in the second half of 2017, and the troupe is discussing with local venue operators to select a suitable stage, the troupe said during a promotion event of Las Vegas tourism in Shanghai.

The troupe also plans to open a new performance venue in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province in 2018 to stage a permanent show themed on a love story with some Chinese performers participating, said Jerry Nadal, senior vice president of permanent show division of the troupe in Las Vegas.

The troupe has seven permanent productions in Las Vegas now, such as "Mystere" featuring an exhilarating blend of acrobatic acts, music and colorful costumes and sets, and "Zumanity", which reveals a seductive twist on reality.

A number of new tourism projects totaling US$7 billion are underway in Las Vegas, which include the construction of Wynn Paradise Park, the expansion of Las Vegas Convention Center and the opening of several new luxury hotels.

A virtual reality app allowing people to obtain a virtual experience of Las Vegas tours has also been recently launched. This includes an aerial tour of the Las Vegas Strip by helicopters and driving through Red Rock Canyon.
