Charity auction of film properties from Zhang Yimou's latest movie 'Great Wall' held in city

A charity auction was held for film properties from director Zhang Yimou's latest epic historical film "The Great Wall" in Shanghai today.

Film properties such as ancient Chinese weapons and costumes, tailor-made by the famous Weta Workshop, were available for the auction.

A calligraphy work of Chinese characters "The Great Wall," written by director Zhang, gained huge popularity. It was sold for 88,000 yuan.

The public auction hosted by the movie website Mtime was also broadcast live and open to online purchasers. A lot of movie buffs participated in the auction. All the proceeds, totaling more than 250,000 yuan will go to a project of China Foundation for Cultural Heritage Conservation to preserve and renovate the Great Wall.

The Sino-US movie will hit cinemas across China on December 16. It stars Hollywood actors Matt Damon, Pedro Pascal and Willem Dafoe and Chinese actor Zheng Kai. The film will also have global distribution to tell a story of China.
