Art exhibition center, sales house to open at riverside

A new exhibition space will open on the west bank of the Huangpu River in 2018, local authorities said yesterday.
The development, to be called Le Freeport West Bund, will also serve as a trading platform and storage area for fine art, the Xuhui District government announced. “Artists, collectors and auctioneers will all be encouraged to make use of the center for meetings, exhibitions and auctions,” said Wang Hongzhou, deputy district governor. “The project will put the West Bund area on a par with the world’s top artwork trading platforms,” he said, adding that construction is set to start next year.
