Appreciating Shanghai charm in Sydney

THE Shanghai Tourism Administration is hosting a tourism campaign in Sydney, Australia, to promote Shanghai's tourism splendor and charm and warm up for the upcoming 2017 “China-Australia Tourism Year.”

The first VR and 4K promotional video “Our Shanghai” showcasing a panoramic view of the city is screened in World Square Shopping Center, Sydney, through October 18, following its overseas debut in New York, the United States, in August this year.

The “Shanghai Tourism Promotion Day," a highlight of the campaign, is held in the center today, featuring VR, 3D naked-eye show, longtang (Shanghai alleyway) games and other theme activities, stirring the interest of many Australians.

Shanghai's classic shikumen-style houses are replicated, and locals find fun in some interesting old-style longtang games like shuttlecock kicking, spinning top and rolling iron hoops.

People could appreciate the beauty of Shanghai Tower, the tallest building in China and the second tallest in the world, Shanghai Jinmao Tower, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and Shanghai World Financial Center in the Lujiazui area via 3D naked-eye shows.

Itineraries themed on Shanghai's architecture, culture, arts, delicacies, relax, festivals and celebrations are introduced as part of the event.

The three-day promotion campaign opening today also included a "Night for Shanghai" event, which took the innovative way of “Australian Telling Shanghai” to introduce Shanghai from an outsider’s angle by inviting a leading figure of Australian tourism industry to recount his tight bound to Shanghai.

Australia shares a good foundation for collaboration with Shanghai in terms of two-way tourism and personnel exchanges. In June, an Australia Week was unveiled in Shanghai, and 72,000 Shanghai tourists visited Australia last year, a rise of 16.3 percent from a year earlier.

Meanwhile, Australia is an important source of inbound visitors to Shanghai, with more than 150,000 Australian visitors travelling to Shanghai every year, according to the Administration.

China Eastern Airlines is scheduled to open a route between Shanghai and Brisbane by the end of this year to boast personnel exchanges and further communication, the administration said.
