Universities tie-up for program

About 400 students from universities in Shanghai, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau are at Shanghai’s Tongji University for a “Joint University” summer program.

The 12-day program, which started yesterday, will include studies of traditional Chinese architecture, ergonomics, branding and design as well as communication skills.

Initiated in 2014, the program has attracted more than 1,000 students till date. Students can earn academic credits for each course. The universities involved are Tongji in Shanghai, Feng Chia and Shih Hsin from Taiwan, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the University of Macau.

Yeong-Chyan Wu, president of the Shih Hsin University, said the “United University” was a good platform for cultivating a broader vision and promoting exchanges among the young students.

“Though we all have the same Chinese culture, we also have some local specialties,” he said. “It is an opportunity to broaden your views and contribute to the cultivation of a global vision.”

Li Yongqian, president of Feng Chia University, said the program would also help foster life-long friendship and enhance communications between the regions.
