Overseas students get a boost with center

A ONE-STOP service center for international students was inaugurated in Putuo District yesterday.

The center will provide assistance on visas, school and course inquiry, language and cultural trainings as well as consultation on policy and living in Shanghai.

“Students can book pick-up services from the center, which also offers temporary accommodation before they find a place to stay. They can also find help at the center for house renting,” said Yang Weiren, director of the international exchanges department of the Shanghai Education Commission.

The biggest convenience at the center is the student visa facilities. They will no longer have to make the trip to Pudong New Area to apply or extend their visas, Yang said, adding that more such centers for the convenience of foreign students are being planned across the city.

They can also attend classes organized by the center to learn Chinese language.

The center will also provide internships and jobs for foreign students.

A fund for international students to start their own business is also in the works.

More information about the center is available on its website (http://www.sissc.com.cn/) and on phone at 52780889.

Meanwhile, the official website for foreign students keen on studying in Shanghai (www.study-shanghai.org) is now available in Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian.
