No more textbook tapes
SHANGHAI’S school system will no longer issue textbooks that come with complementary audio tapes, which have been used in China for more than 20 years, officials said yesterday.
When the new semester begins tomorrow, the 580,000 students at the city’s middle and high schools will be told to use digital versions instead.
Students will find website addresses and QR codes on the back covers of their textbooks and can download audio files, while those who still need tapes can ask their schools to purchase them from Xinhua Bookstores.
The policy will later be expanded to primary schools.
