Ex-medical school official at center of corruption probe

THE former deputy director of Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s School of Medicine has been put under investigation for alleged bribery, the Shanghai People’s Procuratorate No. 2 Branch said yesterday.

The agency did not reveal any details of the inquiry into Zhuang Menghu, 66, a native of Shanghai.

Zhuang became vice president of the Shanghai No. 2 Medical University, as the institution was formerly known, in 1997. He oversaw the logistics, equipment and security departments, as well as several companies run by the school, according to its website.

He was also in charge of a number of construction projects, it said, including faculty buildings, and living accommodation for teachers and students.
