51 new kindergartens

TO cope with an expected spike in admissions due to the abolition of the one-child policy, 51 new kindergartens will be opened in September, officials said.

The Shanghai Health and Family Planning Commission estimates that the number of newborns each year will increase by 20,000 to 30,000. Accounting for 60 percent of 85 new schools, the kindergartens are expected to accommodate 23,000 children.
