Wuliangye signs up as Expo Milan official drink

Chinese liquor giant Wuliangye today announced to participate in World Expo 2015 Milan to show the heritage of Chinese distilleries and serve guests as the official drink.

Sichuan-based Wuliangye is second only to Kweichow Moutai in liquor market share. It signed an agreement with the China Corporate Joint Pavilion, operated by the Shanghai government, to make an exhibition in the pavilion.

“Wuliangye will showcase its 600-year-old distillery tradition that brewed a special drinking culture in central China,” Liu Zhongguo, president of the liquor company, said, adding that the company will promote Chinese liquor to Expo visitors from around the world.

Yu Bin, vice mayor of Yibin City where Wuliangye is located, said the city backs the company’s decision and hopes to gain high exposure through the World Expo.

Wuliangye is the official drink at Chinese government banquets and is used as a gift for foreign visitors. It has won 39 international awards at various exhibitions and fairs, including the World Expo 2010 Shanghai. It is now sold in more than 100 countries.

Apart from the exhibition, the company will also hold tasting events during Expo Milan from May 1 to October 30.
