TWO workers cleaning the exterior of the city’s second tallest skyscraper suffered minor bruises and are being treated in hospital after surviving a horrible moment about 500 meters above ground when their hanging platform smashed through a glass curtain wall.

A video shot by witnesses inside the building has gone viral online today, showing the platform swinging heavily outside Shanghai World Financial Center and repeatedly striking the building's glass curtain wall.

The video was shot from a restaurant on the 100th floor.

SWFC reportedly said the incident happened this morning when the cleaners were doing regular maintenance near the 91st floor.

The top of the 468-meter Oriental Pearl TV Tower, located next to the SWFC building, could be seen below the workers.

The restaurants between the 91st and 100th floors were closed due to the incident although the observation deck on the 94th floor remained open.

The hanging platform appeared to have been blown by strong wind but the exact cause of the incident is still being investigated.

The SWFC is 492 meters tall.
