Syphilis detection tool introduced

A NEW diagnostic test to detect patients infected with syphilis in routine clinical practice and detect the disease from donated blood is now available in China.
According to Roche Diagnostics, the Elecsys syphilis immunoassay, can help doctors with early detection, allowing for the most appropriate treatment.
Syphilis is a serious chronic infectious disease, with the World Health Organization saying 12 million people were infected with the disease worldwide in 2012.
According to 2011 figures, 3 million people are infected with syphilis in China.
In Shanghai, syphilis is the top infectious disease reported, with more than 1,000 new cases every month.
