Strongest chill in 30 years to bring heavy snow tomorrow night; to reach -5 to -7 degrees Sunday and Monday
HEAVY snow will blanket parts of the city from tomorrow night, and the temperature should plummet to 7 degrees below zero on Sunday morning due to a super strong cold front from the north, forecasters warned this noon.
Blizzard should sweep the central parts of East China between tomorrow and Friday with the convergence of the cold and warm air, and Shanghai will be affected.
Sleet will dominate for most of the time, but moderate to heavy snow is expected in the city's west and north suburban areas between tomorrow midnight and Thursday morning, according to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
The accumulated snow in the affected areas will reach 1 to 3 centimeters thick.
Snow will stop on Friday night in the city.
The temperature should range between zero as a low and 6 degrees as a high tomorrow. On Thursday, the low will climb 2 degrees, but the high will drop 1.
On Friday, both the high and the low temperature are forecasted to drop 1 degree.
And there's no relief to expect after, the bureau said.
A cold snap is expected in most areas of East China from Friday night under the influence of a strong cold front from the north.
On Saturday, it should be cloudy to overcast in the city. The temperature should range between 1 below zero as a low and 3 degrees as a high.
On Sunday and Monday mornings, the lowest temperature will plummet to 5 to 7 degrees below zero, according to the bureau.
It will be even colder in the suburb with a low of 9 degrees below zero with serious frost forecasted.
The highest temperature will be 3 to 4 degrees below zero on Sunday morning.
From Tuesday, the temperature will rise significantly, forecasters said.
