Shanghai residents rank first in disposable income

Disposable income among Shanghai residents during the first quarter averaged 14,153 yuan (US$2,280), according to local statistics authorities.

Data from Beijing showed the average disposable income equalling 13,503 yuan during the same period; while in east China's Jiangsu Province, residents had 11,516 yuan.

Of the 25 cities, provinces and regions which had released first-quarter disposable income data as of Monday, these were the only three municipalities where residents had an average of more than 10,000 yuan for discretionary spending.

At the bottom were residents in Qinghai, Gansu and Ningxia Provinces, with average disposable incomes of 6,212 yuan, 6,258 yuan and 6,272 yuan respectively.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, per capita urban disposable income during the first three months averaged 8,572 yuan, representing an increase of 8.3 percent from a year earlier.
