Shanghai International Film Festival program announced

The program has been announced for the 18th Shanghai International Film Festival, which runs from June 13 to June 21.

According to Fu Wenxia, an official with the festival’s organizing committee, this year’s festival has received a record 2,096 entries from 108 countries and territories.

The most outstanding films have been chosen to vie for the Golden Goblet Award and the Asian New Talent Award.

Nominated films for the Golden Goblet Award include “Sunstroke,” a new production from Russian director Nikita Mikhalkov, well-known South Korean film maker Kang Je-kyu’s “Salut D’amour” and Taiwan director Wang Tung’s “Where the Wind Settles.”

During the festival more than 1,200 film screenings of both classic and new films from all over the world will be presented at 45 local cinemas, including the Shanghai Film Art Center and Wanda International cinemas.

Ticket will go on sale about a week before the festival starts.

Other acclaimed movies in the program include “The Theory of Everything,” “Birdman” and “Two Days, One Night.”

The festival will also launch a Jackie Chan Action Movie Week and pay tribute to celebrated figures, such as French film maker and critic Jean-Luc Godard, Japanese actor Ken Takakura and Chinese American actress Anna May Wong.

On June 13, the red carpet opening ceremony will gather around 400 stars from home and abroad. Gong Li, Jackie Chan and Aaron Kwok have been confirmed to attend.

The festival also includes a film industry forum, new film projects pitching and master classes.

There will also be a film review writing contest, outdoor film screenings and a film scores concert.
