Shanghai Citizens Art Festival to kick off on Saturday

THE fifth Shanghai Citizens Art Festival will raise its curtain on Saturday with a series of cultural and art events.

The festival, launched by the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture, Radio, Film and TV in 2013, will host thousands of cultural events at the city’s 209 community centers and public cultural venues throughout the year. In spring, more than 6,000 events will be held.

Organizers said that 2017 festival will feature city-wide contests of dance, recitation, chorus and creative art design. Professional art troupes of the city will be invited to give performances and workshops at public venues such as subway station and park to promote traditional arts.

The digital cultural service platform "Culture Shanghai Cloud" will continue to provide abundant cultural information and resources for local families. People can apply for free tickets of film, traditional theater and folk art exhibition.

On the opening day the Shanghai Mass Art Center will invite scholars and experts to give free lectures on traditional Chinese poetry. Classic excerpts of Peking Opera will be presented. Citizens can also attend handicrafts workshop, calligraphy exhibition and theater performances at the city's community centers.
