Save the Earth while enjoying the suite

JING An Shangri-La, West Shanghai continues its efforts to conserve energy and help save the Earth by participating in the World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF) Earth Hour 2015 on 28 March 2015 between 8:30pm and 9:30pm

On 28 March 2015, guests staying in the hotel’s 311-square-metre Shangri-La Suite  will enjoy an unprecedented special service provided by the senior hotel management team to help save the Earth.  The Hotel Manager and Resident Manager will hand-carry luggage to the guests’ room by climbing over 1,500 stairs in uniform, instead of taking the hotel elevator.

The hotel’s executive chef will also prepare a romantic candlelight dinner in the dining room of the Shangri-La Suite, where the guests may enjoy the stunning view with their loved ones and family.

In a concerted effort to spread awareness of environmental and energy conservation, all non-essential power and lights throughout the hotel, including those in the guestroom corridors, back-of-house areas, staff activity areas and hotel façade, will be turned off and all restaurant lighting will be dimmed to a minimum.

In addition, the Human Resources Department will host a green lunch and dinner by candlelight at Colleagues Restaurant in support of Earth Hour on 27 and 28 March 2015.  The hotel has also initiated the “Best Energy Conservation Ideas” competition by encouraging colleagues to brainstorm energy-saving and environment-protection ideas.

For Earth Hour, Calypso Terrace Lounge has prepared an “Earth Hour Under the Stars” themed cocktail.   Jing An Shangri-La, West Shanghai’s official WeChat followers will enjoy a “buy one special cocktail, get the second for free” limited offer between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.  Other dining areas on the hotel’s ground floor will also be candle lit.

Jing An Shangri-La, West Shanghai is proudly a LEED-certified building.  The hotel’s energy and environmental features include high-efficiency chillers and boilers and low-GWP refrigerants.  Additionally, efficiently operated run-around coil equipment reclaims heat.  Furthermore, a variable speed drive is employed for plumbing water pump and AIC pumps.  Laundry waste water is also treated and recycled for irrigation use.  Low-flow sanitary ware is used and an efficient WVF drive is used for the elevators.  A BMS control is applied to public area lighting for load control.  A heat pump reclaims heat from chilled water returning from pre-heated water.

The hotel is involved in this event to enhance community awareness of the need to protect the environment for future generations.
