Ride-hailing firms have a tough ride
Ride-hailing firms which are failing to clear out unqualified drivers and cars continue to be punished daily by the Shanghai Transportation Commission’s law enforcement department, while the daily penalty maximum doubled from 100,000 yuan (US$14,542) to 200,000 yuan.
Didi Chuxing received two 100,000-yuan penalty tickets from officers yesterday. Meituan Chuxing received a 30,000-yuan penalty.
The officers visited Didi and pulled out 20 orders from the commission’s supervisory data platform, none of which was operated by a qualified driver.
The officers didn’t go to Meituan to check but busted an illegal car from the platform on the street. Didi and Meituan have been receiving 100,000-yuan and 30,000-yuan tickets every day since July 8.
The commission says that all ride-hailing car drivers must have permanent Shanghai residency and their cars must have a commercial certificate as well as local plates.
