Rare butterfly specimens on exhibition at Shanghai zoo during holiday

A butterfly exhibition featuring rare butterfly specimen display will run through the National Day holiday at the Shanghai Zoo.

Tens of thousands of butterflies of about 20 species such as common birdwingand and chestnut tiger will be flied during the month-long event till October 25 at the zoo's amphibian reptile pavilion, while more than 50 rare butterfly specimen including menelaus blue morpho and ulysses butterfly will be on display.

A photo contest encouraging shutterbugs to capture the beauty of butterflies is held at the zoo as well.

The zoo's newly built macaw exhibition area covering over 900 square meters which is home to 21 macaws will open to the public during the holiday.

Meanwhile, a French Apple Art Festival kicked off at Shanghai Chenshan Botanic Garden today.

The festival features some 1,000 apples decorated with images of the Mona Lisa, the Summer Palace and other scenes.

These apples were cultivated at the Les Jardins Fruitiers de Laquenexy in Moselle, France, using an old but refined technique.

The displaying area will be surrounded with apple trees and 13,000 square meters of sunflowers, and the garden will also host succulent exhibitions and concerts during the holiday.
