Pudong flights affected as dense fog shrouds airport

ABOUT 100 flights were cancelled and over 30 were delayed at Pudong International Airport tonight due to a thick fog shrouding the airport.

Visibility began  to decline after 7pm due to fog and hazy weather when takeoffs were restricted while incoming flights landing was delayed, according to the airport authority.

The visibility of the four runways dropped to only about 200 meters around 10pm when carriers announced delays over safety concerns.

The Spring Airlines cancelled all the inbound flights to Pudong airport at 10pm, while incoming flights were diverted to Hongqiao airport.

China Eastern and China Southern airlines issued flight delay alerts at Pudong airport because the visibility was “too low for takeoff and landing.” Passengers are advised to check with the airlines about their flight information before heading to the airport.
