Pudong bibimbap eatery closed after 20 ordering via apps fell sick

AN eatery in Pudong New Area has been closed after 20 people, mostly college students, fell ill in a suspected food poisoning case yesterday afternoon, authorities said today.

These people fell sick after eating take-away food of a barbecue and bibimbap restaurant on Pudong's on Keyuan Road, in Zhangjiang area, and they received medical treatment at the Shuguang Hospital, according to the Pudong New Area Market Supervision and Management Bureau.

Totally 20 victims were sickened and have all been discharged after receiving treatment, said the bureau.

Most of the victims are students of nearby universities, according to the bureau.

Among them, five are students of the Zhangjiang campus of Fudan University, and six are from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Another four study at the Zhangjiang campus of China Academy of Art.

Food samples have been sent for laboratory tests, and investigation is underway, the bureau said.

They bought the meals via online food-delivery platforms Ele.me and waimai.koubei.com. They showed symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea and fever.
